3 "Must Know" facts about concrete:
article by: K&K for CCC
1.) It's hard
2.) It's grey
3.) It cracks!
Some jokes just never die! But this one is almost past it's time. Yep, it still gets hard! But it no longer has to be grey. The trend for the up-scale neighborhoods is colored and decorative concrete for driveways, patios, walkways and more including earthy browns, soft roses and cool muted greens. See our Decorative Concrete page for more ideas.
Now about those cracks...it's true. Concrete can crack overtime but they can certainly be minimized if not abolished. KF Creative Concrete Concepts uses two standard practices to prevent cracking. We do this with "Control Joints" and "Saw Cut Joints".
Control Joints are tooled in during the finishing process. Expansion joints (that fiberous black stuff for us laymen) are placed where old concrete meets new and where the pour is 50' or more. Saw Cut Joints are cut with a saw after the concrete has set. With great precision a thin, clean cut is made about a 1/4 " wide and 25 % of the thickness of the concrete. Both practices allow for the necessary expansion and contraction of set concrete which helps eliminates cracking and heaving (lifting).
So whether your concrete is grey or rosey pink we'll take the necessary steps to prevent your cement from cracking. OH yeah, and we Guarantee our concrete get's hard! And the joke goes on...
